Comfort is such a sought out emotion.

We want our shoes to be comfortable.

Our clothes to be comfortable.

The temperature to be comfortable.

Relationships and conversations to be comfortable.

And when those things aren’t we are so quick to find a way to make them that way or avoid the situation.

There are things where feeling comfort can be important like your shoes and clothes.

But seeking comfort in your overall life and in your day to day routine is most certainly keeping you from your dreams.

As an emotion not many people would look at comfort as something that is hindering your life. It would be encouraged to find the space that brings you comfort by most people.

I don’t want you to find comfort it is not an emotion that is helping you achieve your dreams. You can use emotions that feel good but also will keep those dreams alive. 

What is comfort?

According to Lexico, which is powered by the oxford dictionary, they define comfort as, A state of physical ease and freedom from pain or constraint.

It’s a lovely definition, certainly not one you would look at and go, yeah I don’t want to feel that. Quite the opposite right? Bring on the comfort.

Seeking out comfort is fine if you want to be in the same place.

If you want the same results that you have now.

If you don’t want to see things change.

If your dreams are exactly as your life is at this moment.

If there is nothing new you want to bring into your life.

Dreams are not where you are now or they would not be dreams. Stepping outside of comfort is going to grow you and your life in unimaginable ways.

Comfort is not Useful

When you are trying to bring about comfort your actions are going to mirror that which is why comfort is not useful and will not serve you.

Seeking comfort will cause you to do things that you believe will create that emotion. 

This will mean avoiding anything that places you a bit out of your comfort zone. Which really equates to things that are different than what you do now.

Can you see how limiting that would be in your life?

Without doing anything different there would be no way to get new results.

Comfort may feel good for the time being but it really is keeping you from so many wonderful things.

Comfort can also cause results you aren’t intending. When you stay in a state of comfort life can begin to be a bit stale.

A good example of this is romantic relationships. When you stay in your comfort zone and are only seeking comfort through that there is no growth. When there is no growth or change people get bored or tired.

I am sure you can find an example of this in your life. Comfort is short time enjoyable experience. What really improves your life is realizing that comfort means things are stalling out.

Life is Not supposed to be all Sunshine and Rainbows

Life is not supposed to be all positive emotions. It cannot be good all the time.

A big movement that you see recently is people seeking to feel good always.

That just isn’t the reality. Without negative things how would you even know that you are experiencing anything positive? You really couldn’t know.

I like knowing that life can’t always be positive. It means when I experience negative emotions that nothing is wrong, I have not done anything wrong, and this just how it is. You should like knowing that as well. 

Now this is not to be confused with staying in the negative and having pity parties or throwing your hands up because life will not always be good.

Own the negative as you would own the positive and just know that it is okay.

Achieving Your Dreams is definitely NOT Sunshine and Rainbows

Your dreams are not what you have now or else they would not still be dreams.

It does not matter what your dream is. It could be to start a family, visit a new country, start a business, or anything else. 

Whether you dream is big or small it will only come from changing things in your life.

Creating that change and working towards your dreams is going to come with a LOT of feelings. The path isn’t easy to get there and that is a wonderful thing.

If, getting to your dream was easy then everybody would be living their dreams!

As you are on your path there are going to be obstacles and challenges and you are going to experience things that don’t feel great.

This is not the time to quit. This is not the time to go back to finding your comfort. This is the time to get to know yourself and be okay with feeling those things.

It does not have to be as terrible as your mind is making it seem right now. I promise you can do it and you can be okay with having those not so great moments.

Those challenging times are going to teach you more than feeling comfortable ever will.

Other Emotions like Comfort

Comfort is not the only sneaky emotion that seems like it would be good for you but can really be hindering what you are trying to achieve in life. There are some others out there you should keep your eye on.

One of those sneaky emotions is satisfied. Satisfied like comfort will have its place in some spaces of your life. When it comes to achieving your dreams it is not the place. When you are satisfied you are not seeking more.

Your dream is not to be satisfied right now but to have your dream. While you are on your dream journey satisfied is going to delay you or take you right off the path. 

Content is another one to watch out for. When we are content we are neutral about what is happening. Always be assessing and be aware of what you are creating in your life.

Think about some of the other emotions you are seeking and see if they are helping you on on your journey to your dream or if they are secretly sabotaging your success.

Emotions you can use instead of Comfort

Now that you understand how comfort really isn’t useful to you what the heck are you going to use instead?

I am going to give you some emotions that can feel good but are also helpful in your journey. You can also explore emotions and find the ones that are a fit for you. Emotions are not a one size fits all and different ones bring about different experiences for us.

The ones that I find useful and feel good are:

Excited

Committed

Focused

Capable

Inspired

I love coming up with thoughts that lead to these emotions. The actions and results you get from these emotions are so different than what you would with comfort.

You can get so much more from your life and journey when you use those.

Excited is a good one for when you are in that comfort place and really trying to move out of it. It brings about an energy that can really get you moving. Once you are on that trajectory I like committed or focused to remind me to keep going because excited is not always as easy to believe when you are in the process.

Once you start experiencing obstacles and challenges the capable and committed realm really keeps you on your path.

Final Thoughts

Your dream should be special and something you really want in your life but it is not easy to get there.

Emotions like comfort and content are not going to move you any closer. While they feel good in the moment they are not truly serving you.

Find some emotions that will create actions moving you to what you are really wanting in life.
