What do you believe when it comes to money, business, and career?

A belief you have becomes statements you tell herself. Those beliefs then drive your actions.

Limiting beliefs in those areas will keep you from excelling. You may not even realize that that is what you are creating in your life. When you don’t have the results that you want in these areas you need to take a look at what your beliefs are surrounding them.

Here are some common limiting beliefs in career, money and business and what you may say based on that belief:

You may believe that you can’t have something because there are too many other people that have it.
“I can’t be successful in my business because there are already so many other people doing it.”

You may believe that you have to trade something else to get what you want.
“If I am a successful in my career I won’t have time to start a family.”

You may believe that you don’t deserve it.
“I don’t deserve to make that much money.”

You may believe you are never going to have enough.
“I can’t make enough money to be happy.”

You may believe you won’t achieve what you want to.
“I can’t get that promotion so why try.”

These are limiting beliefs. Beliefs like this will keep you from having it all. When you form thoughts like these you are coming from a place of scarcity.

Scarcity is often the default for a lot of people when it comes to money. This can come from watching their parents growing up struggling with money or a number of other places.

The great news is that you can change beliefs.

What are beliefs?

Merriam Webster defines a belief as “something that is accepted, considered to be true, or held as an opinion.”

The words that are interesting in this definition are accepted, considered, and held. Those are all things that you could change. You could accept something new. You can consider a new thought. You can hold new beliefs.

Beliefs have power in our lives. They guide us through our journeys almost as a set of guidelines we have.

Your belief system is something that needs your attention. These beliefs are guiding your life, creating your results. If, you don’t have awareness on what your beliefs are you are letting your default brain take over.

The default of your brain is going to be what it has always done. It will stay in what is easy even though it is not what is best.

You and only you have the power over your beliefs.

Limiting Beliefs

A limiting belief is what will keep you feeling constantly stuck. Limiting beliefs about your money will keep money from coming to you.

You are putting a cap on what money you can bring in before you even take any action.

Think of the phrase, “I will never make that much money.”

That is such a demotivating opinion. Having this thought in your mind will keep you from even trying to make more money.

It is an excuse to not do things that would bring you in the money you truly desire. You are pushing money away from you. Your brain will keep that phrase close to itself and look for a way to make it true.

Limiting beliefs may not be conscious but you are creating your results with them.

Scarcity

Operating from a place of scarcity will keep you from thriving. When you believe there isn’t enough money or space for your business, or top positions in your career you aren’t going to try and get those things.

Scarcity is a term that is used in economics. When something is scarce it is in short supply. When you apply it to your life it holds the same meaning. Scarcity is not the truth rather there is more than enough to go around.

When you are in a scarcity mindset with your money you don’t even like your money. When you don’t like something you push it away. In order to bring more money into your life you have to work on your scarcity mindset. Which you can absolutely do.

Thinking scarcity thoughts is going to keep you in scarcity.

Become abundant with your money

There is enough money. You can make more money. Money is great. You can love your money.

You can believe all of the statements above.

One of the great things about our brains is that it wants to make whatever we put into it true. It will work to support whatever thought you put into it.

Would you rather be telling your mind that you can have enough money in your life or that you will never have enough money?

Now this will not be an overnight change but, the first step is to notice your beliefs that you have about money.

Changing your thoughts about money can be tough. Your brain likes to do the same thing that it has always done. It is easier than trying to forge a new way of thinking. Anytime you do something that differs from what you have always done you will be met with resistance.

Creating new thoughts around money are going to be the same way. It will take nurturing this relationship with your money.

What becoming abundant with money is not

You cannot make an action list and create an abundant relationship with money. Creating a budget or investing money will not lead you to abundance with money. Those are actions. The thoughts that are behind those actions are going to be a driving force.

Consider budgeting and two opposing thoughts on money.

One from scarcity – “I don’t have enough money.”

One from abundance – “Money is effortless for me.”

When you sit down to build a budget I can sense all the negative feelings that would be produced with the scarcity statement. You will feel frustrated and stressed. Rather than the second thought where you come from liking your money. You are going to take care of your money with this thought.

Both situations you were doing an action that people tell you will make you better with your money but you can see how your thoughts behind that are going to create the results.

Create the thoughts and beliefs around your money that support the results that you want to have. To bring more money into your life you need to

Will This Work For You?

Some people may question whether changing a belief can actually change how much money that will bring to your life. It can but it is not the only step to creating the results.

To achieve results you need to take action. Actions create results but your beliefs create what actions you can take.

Changing your mindset is the very first step to bringing more money into your life. Shifting your mindset will only work if you start shifting to things that you believe.

It may be too big of a jump for you to go from “I will never have enough money” to “I can always have enough money.” Find a thought you believe that would fit in between there. It could be something as simple as “I have enough money for today.”

Once you start changing the way you look at money you will start shifting your actions that surround your money.

In order to see results you have to keep assessing where your mind is at with your beliefs surrounding money. The work will continue because there will be things that try to derail you. You are strong enough to keep putting this work to practice to see the results that you want to see.

How long do I have to do this for?

Apply this concept and get rich tomorrow! Wait. Maybe not quite.

I am not here to tell you misleading information. I am here to give you tools and information that you can use to change your life. This work will not happen overnight.

There is no set time frame where you will see the results. This is a personal experience. I can’t watch your brain but you can. Be realistic about where you are starting and be gentle with yourself. There is always something that everyone can work on.

Money is a large part of people’s lives. Changing your mindset can change a lot.

You can see amazing results from this. Once you build a foundation you it wont’ feel as new. You can start catching your brain when it tries to lead you to thinking that money is hard. Money doesn’t have to be hard. Money can be easy!

Things You Have No Control Over

There are going to be events that you will want to make mean that you shouldn’t have the money results you are seeking. You may lose a source of income that you thought would bring you to where you wanted to be.

The important thing in these situations is how you think about that event. Be curious to what thoughts you create around it. Are you saying “Well, I guess I’ll just give up trying.” or are you saying “Money is easy, I can make more money whenever I want.” The second thought will create actions to bring you to the result of having more money. The first thought you aren’t going to change your situation with and will keep you right where you are.

Those events you may have no control over happening. What you do have control over is how you see them and what you do following them.

Final Thoughts

What you have with money is a relationship. Like any relationship it needs attention and care. The first place to start is the thoughts that you have surrounding it.

Decide if you want to come from a place where there is never going to be enough or one where you can have money and it is easy.

This will take work and time but will drive the actions that you need to improve your status with money.

No matter what happens in your life you have control over how you think about it and what you do about it. If, you lose your job you could sit in despair or you can think of it as an opportunity to doing something new or that you want to do.

Regardless of where you are starting you can make this shift. It may not be a beeline to money being easy and flowing to you but you can get there. Be patient with yourself and keep watching your brain.
